The Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy Dorm Renovation brings essential upgrades to the student housing facilities on the Academy’s Douglas campus. As the training ground for all law enforcement professionals across the state of Wyoming, the Academy plays a vital role in public safety. Phase 1 of this phased improvement plan, constructed in 2025, focused on renovating the first floor, including 30 dorm rooms and a shared commons space. Updates included refreshed interior finishes, modernized building systems, and enhanced accessibility, providing cadets and staff with safer, more comfortable living quarters that meet current code standards and modern expectations.

THE INSPIRATION

The renovation was guided by the Academy’s need to provide a functional, durable, and inclusive residential environment while maintaining ongoing training operations. The design team prioritized accessibility, creating ADA-compliant dorm rooms and restrooms with appropriate clearances, fixtures, and finishes to serve cadets with diverse physical needs. Thoughtful layout improvements also enhanced privacy within each room and incorporated built-in and under-bed storage to maximize efficiency. Every decision, from finishes to room layouts, was made with the goal of supporting cadets’ daily routines and the long-term needs of the Academy.

THE IMPACT

A phased, floor-by-floor approach allowed construction to proceed without disrupting daily training activities. Systems upgrades completed during Phase 1 set the stage for a more efficient second phase, which will renovate the second floor’s 30 dorm rooms and additional common space. The completed first-floor renovations create a revitalized, forward-thinking environment that balances comfort, safety, and functionality. These improvements reflect the Academy’s commitment to training excellence, occupant well-being, and long-term facility performance for law enforcement professionals across Wyoming.
