A Promise Made by Neighbors, Now a Home for the Whole Community

Before Tepeyac was a healthcare organization, it was a group of neighbors who decided enough was enough. Founded by community members determined to close the gap in healthcare access for underserved families in North Denver, Tepeyac started in a small, volunteer-built clinic and grew into one of Colorado’s most trusted community health centers. More than thirty years later, that same commitment—to health equity, dignity, and care that treats people like people—is what shaped the new home for Tepeyac’s growing mission.
Located in Denver’s Elyria-Swansea neighborhood, the new 24,500-square-foot Tepeyac Community Health Center brings medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, imaging, laboratory, and community services together under one roof. It’s a building designed to feel welcoming rather than institutional—a place where healthcare and community aren’t separate things.

Built on Trust, Designed to Remove Barriers

Tepeyac’s story starts in 1994, when community leaders noticed how many local families were going without care — not for lack of need, but because of cost, language, transportation, and a shortage of available services nearby. Neighbors responded by turning a small bungalow into a clinic for people who might otherwise have nowhere to turn.


That clinic never stopped growing. As demand for Tepeyac’s affordable, culturally responsive care increased year after year, it became clear the organization had outgrown its space—and that a more comprehensive, unified facility wasn’t a luxury, it was a necessity.

The goal for the new center was simple to state and harder to design for: strip away the barriers that keep people from getting care, without losing the trust and sense of belonging Tepeyac has built since day one. Every design decision had to serve both—familiar enough to feel like home, flexible enough to support high-quality care for decades to come.

A Bigger Building, A Bigger Reach

The new Tepeyac Community Health Center changes what’s possible for thousands of individuals and families across Metro Denver. With medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and support services all in one place, patients spend less time navigating between appointments and more time actually getting care that’s coordinated instead of scattered.


The expanded space also gives Tepeyac room to grow—to reach more of Colorado’s uninsured and underserved residents in the years ahead.


This building is Tepeyac’s founding promise, made physical: that quality healthcare should be within reach for every family, regardless of what stands in the way.
