Firm’s first female president brings people-first leadership and a legacy of studio-building to the role.
MOA ARCHITECTURE is proud to announce the appointment of Katie Vander Putten, AIA, EDAC, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, as the firm’s new President. A passionate architect and visionary leader, Katie becomes the first woman to lead the company in its more than four-decade history.
Katie has been with MOA since 2014, serving as a Principal and the Director of Healthcare. She specializes in complex healthcare project management, creative planning, and design delivery, with a diverse portfolio that spans primary care clinics, teaching hospitals, specialty hospitals, care centers, ambulatory surgery centers, and medical office buildings. Katie’s expertise also extends to medical campus planning, master planning, program planning, medical equipment planning, and project budgeting. She focuses on creating facilities that support the unique mission and vision of each client, ensuring that the spaces foster healing for care providers, patients, and families alike.
Her journey with MOA began when she took on the challenge of building a healthcare design studio from the ground up—a grassroots effort that has since grown into one of the firm’s most successful and impactful divisions. Following the retirement of longtime executive Barry Koury, Katie expanded her role to oversee the firm’s finance and business management, all while continuing to lead with a people-first mindset.
“Katie is truly an incredible leader.” Says Genevieve Rogers, Project Manager at MOA. “She’s deeply dedicated to growing and mentoring our team so we can deliver projects that reflect the unique needs of each of our clients. Katie brings this fun, competitive energy that lights up any room she walks into. She genuinely cares about each person on the team and works hard to make sure the right people are in the right roles at the right time. She’s all about relationships—always asking how she can support us and how she can help.”
“Katie leads with vision and heart. She pushes us to reimagine what’s possible in healthcare design—not settling for the industry standard, but constantly learning, evolving, and elevating how we serve our clients and each other,” added Kaye Mullaney, Senior Project Manager at MOA.
Katie’s leadership is built on her deep belief in supporting the people around her, whether through mentorship, thoughtful collaboration, or strategic investment in her colleagues’ success. As an advocate for women in design and a champion of diverse perspectives, she leads a firm where inclusion, purpose, and excellence are foundational values.
As President, Katie is committed to continuing MOA’s growth while maintaining the culture that has long defined the firm—one of integrity, collaboration, and an unwavering focus on the success of both clients and team members.
