CBI Toxicology Lab Expansion
Colorado Bureau of Investigation
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) provides essential forensic services that support law enforcement and protect communities across the state. As demand for toxicology testing continued to grow, CBI identified the need for a larger, more advanced facility—one that could increase capacity and efficiency without relocating its operations.
MOA ARCHITECTURE partnered with CBI and the State of Colorado to transform a former loading dock into a purpose-built laboratory space nearly three times the size of the previous toxicology lab. This 2,795-square-foot expansion now houses 10 full-time toxicologists who perform critical blood testing to support a wide variety of cases throughout Colorado’s criminal justice systems.
The design prioritized lab workflow, safety, and technical precision, creating a secure environment that supports the high standards required in forensic science. From integrating specialized lab equipment to coordinating complex MEP systems, the project team focused on delivering a high-performing facility that meets both current and future demands.
By converting underutilized space into a state-of-the-art lab, this expansion strengthens CBI’s ability to support justice and public safety throughout Colorado.
