A New Hub for STEM, Innovation, and Collaboration

The Enzi Applied Learning Center is a transformative new academic facility envisioned for Gillette College that will expand STEM education, support workforce development, and create innovative opportunities for hands-on learning. The 46,464-square-foot building will serve as a campus gateway, housing modern classrooms, shared fabrication laboratories, collaborative learning environments, and a vibrant commons space designed to foster student engagement across disciplines. Through extensive programming, planning, and stakeholder collaboration, the project aligns with the college’s strategic goal of creating a student-centered experience that prepares learners for workforce credentials, university transfer, and meaningful careers.

From Coal Country to Career Pathways

The design of the Enzi Applied Learning Center is rooted in both Gillette’s future aspirations and its rich heritage. Inspired by the community’s mining legacy, the building incorporates exposed steel structures, durable materials, and industrial design elements that reflect the character of the region while celebrating applied learning and innovation. Materials such as dark steel, concrete, and wood create a visual narrative that symbolizes the transformation of raw materials into finished products—mirroring the educational journey of students.

The project was born from a campus-wide programming and master planning effort that identified the need for modern, flexible learning environments capable of supporting emerging STEM programs and workforce training. The facility addresses growing demand for collaborative, hands-on educational spaces while strengthening connections between academic programs, industry needs, and student success. Sloped roof forms complement the existing campus architecture, while practical features such as an accessible crawlspace and conditioned mechanical penthouse support long-term operational efficiency and adaptability.

Reflecting a Legacy of Hard Work and Innovation

The Enzi Applied Learning Center will establish a new front door for Gillette College while elevating the educational experience for students, faculty, and the broader community. By providing innovative teaching spaces, fabrication labs, and collaborative environments, the facility will strengthen workforce development opportunities and help students gain the skills needed for high-demand careers.

Beyond the building itself, the project creates meaningful connections between campus and community. Outdoor plazas and gathering spaces will support events, collaboration, and informal learning, while the facility’s prominent location reinforces Gillette College’s commitment to growth and innovation. As a landmark destination on campus, the Enzi Applied Learning Center will help attract future students, support enrollment growth, and position the college as a leader in applied education throughout the region.
