Hanover Elementary Opens Its Doors to a New Chapter

After years of determination, planning, and community advocacy, Hanover Elementary School has officially opened its doors to students in a transformed learning environment designed to support learning, exploration, and opportunity for generations to come.

Made possible through a Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant, the project added 12,725 square feet of new construction and included 4,000 square feet of renovations, addressing long-standing facility needs while creating new spaces for students and staff. 

The completed project includes seven new classrooms, a secure entry vestibule, a media center, an expanded kitchen, upgraded mechanical systems, and a reverse osmosis water system that provides reliable access to clean drinking water. The addition also allowed the district to eliminate outdated modular classrooms and create a more cohesive learning environment for students.

What makes this milestone especially meaningful is the journey that led here.

Before design work began, Hanover School District 28 partnered with MOA ARCHITECTURE to develop a comprehensive master plan that identified critical challenges, including overcrowded classrooms, aging building systems, water quality concerns, and campus safety needs. That collaborative planning process helped shape the district's successful BEST grant application and established a clear vision for the school's future. 

The project was further guided by a Design Advisory Group that brought together teachers, staff, district leadership, and community members. Meeting regularly throughout the design process, the group helped ensure that every decision reflected the unique needs and priorities of Hanover's students and families. 

Students now have access to permanent classrooms that replace modular spaces, a dedicated media center that supports reading and discovery, enhanced building systems that improve comfort and air quality, and dependable access to clean drinking water. Flexible learning environments, expanded support spaces, and improved facilities create opportunities for collaboration, creativity, and hands-on learning throughout the school day.

The transformation of Hanover Elementary is a reflection of a community's commitment to its students. It represents years of persistence and a shared belief that every child deserves access to quality learning environments and the resources needed to succeed.

As students begin the school year in their newly expanded and renovated school, Hanover Elementary enters a new chapter rooted in opportunity, pride, and possibility. Congratulations to the Hanover community!
