Students, families, staff, and community members gathered on August 13th and 17th to celebrate the opening of Golden Ridge, Silver Spruce, and Mountain Peak Elementary Schools during Back-to-School events and ribbon-cutting ceremonies across Highlands Ranch.

The celebrations marked the beginning of a new chapter for each school community, as classrooms welcomed students, hallways filled with families, and educators opened their doors for the start of the 2026-27 school year.

While the events celebrated new school names, updated spaces, and refreshed identities, they also highlighted the purpose behind the District's work: creating learning environments where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

Golden Ridge, Silver Spruce, and Mountain Peak Elementary Schools are the result of Douglas County School District's Growth & Decline initiative, which helps the District respond to changing enrollment patterns across the county. As enrollment shifts over time, the District works to align resources, facilities, and programming in ways that support students and ensure long-term sustainability.

In Highlands Ranch, that work included the consolidation of three pairs of elementary schools. Acres Green Elementary and Fox Creek Elementary came together to form Silver Spruce Elementary, Heritage Elementary and Summit View Elementary became Mountain Peak Elementary, and Saddle Ranch Elementary and Eldorado Elementary became Golden Ridge Elementary.

The three projects represent the culmination of extensive planning and community engagement. Through building upgrades, facility improvements, enhanced programming, and the development of new school identities, each campus was designed to bring together legacy school communities while creating strong foundations for the future.

The ribbon-cutting ceremonies offered an opportunity to celebrate the work that made these transitions possible and to recognize the excitement surrounding the opening of the schools. They also reflected the District's commitment to adapting to demographic changes while maintaining high-quality educational opportunities for students.

As the school year begins, Golden Ridge, Silver Spruce, and Mountain Peak Elementary Schools stand as examples of how Douglas County School District is responding to changing community needs while creating sustainable, thriving school communities for years to come.
